The Admin Pocket

An organized mind curries favor, and an organized pack favors curry. The 11 liter admin pocket has room for all your day-to-day quick-access needs, including a generously sized lunch

The Main Pocket

A 17L, 6-inch deep main compartment with tie-down straps means you've got room for a few of days of travel or any large, awkwardly shaped items. A clamshell opening means you can Tetris to your heart's content. A couple of pockets offer enough volume for any toiletries or small things you want to keep for a rainy day.

The Device Pocket

The laptop sleeve is sized to fit anything up to a 16" Macbook Pro, and if the sleeve isn't big enough there is plenty of room to keep larger laptops along with a Cache.

The Back

The ultra-comfortable Edgeless shoulder straps that you've come to expect with TOM BIHN make a showing here, along with the wonderfully breatheable skeleton back panel previously featured in the Techonaut and Addax makes a return in the Bixi.

The Bixi's pass-through can be put on a roll-aboard two ways. First is similar to our Synik, fold the backpack straps over the front of the bag and slip it through in the backpack orientation. The second is to turn it on its side briefcase-style. Either way you have a nice, comfortable handle while you're placing and removing the bag from over the handle as well as to carry the Bixi short distances.

An adjustable and removable sternum strap with leave-no-trace hardware: if you don't like or don't use your sternum strap, remove it and leave (almost) nothing behind.

One Gatekeeper Hip Belt

A simple webbing waist strap that can offer extra stability when running to catch a bus, plane, or train. It can also add a small measure of support for a heavy load (for a truly supportive hip belt experience, please see the optional 1" Padded Hip Belt.) Also features leave-no-trace hardware.

    Lovely backpack (almost too much !)

    This is a really beautiful backpack. Aesthetically so much nicer than the other pack I own. But I had a little trouble packing it with a weekend's worth of clothes/shoes (though admittedly that might be my (lack) of packing skills!) My other pack doesn't open as wide, so the limitations of it make it easier in that I just can stuff everything into it quickly. The Bixi is well-made and lovely all around, but for the moment I'm using a less expensive pack that I can throw around, not worry about and pack a bit quicker and easier.

    My favorite travel backpack

    I recently used this backpack on a trip to Italy. It’s my husband’s, but I offered to “test” it out for him :). I think it’s a fantastic backpack that was thoughtfully designed and well-made. I loved all the little hidden compartments throughout the interior. The full zip made it easy to pack clothing and other items. The back compartment is great for a laptop/ipad, kindle, notebook and file folders. Everything had its place. As for the straps, they have great padding. I had some heavy items in there and it never felt like it was digging into my shoulders. I’m pretty sure I’ll be purchasing one for myself. Highly recommend!

    A Magical Beast

    I travel with a carry-on roller, but I am always conscious of keeping its weight down. Hence, I have searched for a personal item bag that can serve as my electronics/personal/spill over bag. Enter the Bixi. I just returned from a cross-country flight with my Aubergine Beast. The Beast easily swallowed my Macbook and iPad as well as my Kindle with tons of room to spare for my regular personal items and extra jacket. I like the more "loose" organizational layout of the Beast over the many pockets of the Synik/Synapse since I use packing cubes.

    Unlike the Syniks I've tried, the Beast easily fit over my roller handle.

    My big question was how the Beast would fit underneath my plane seat. It wasn't packed to the gills, but I saw that even if I had packed it more fully I would have had no issues fitting under a row seat (Delta).

    I didn't even bother putting it on my roller in the end as it carries so comfortably I barely knew it was on my back. And, given all of my electronics, it was not a light carry.

    I own and use many Tom Bihn items. The Beast will become my airline personal item as well as my road trip travel bag. I can't foresee ever worrying about not having enough room to carry back items that I pick up on my travels!

    Well done, Jose. I know the initial comments were not always favorable, but this bag is a worthy addition to the line up. And, made in the USA is always a win for me.
