Yes, the TOM BIHN Aeronaut 30 is (finally) back! Restocking 8/26 at 7am PDT.

This restock has been a long time in the making. We've seen your various emails, blog comments, DMs asking for when the Aeronaut 30 will be available for purchase, and trust us, we've been working hard at this for months.

If you've been following us for a while, the Aeronaut 30 is probably a household name for you. If you're newer to us, the Aeronaut 30, predecessor to the Techonaut 30, is a convertible travel duffel and backpack, ideal for those who want a versatile travel bag with a large main compartment but don't need the separate laptop compartment or luggage handle pass-through feature that the Techonaut offers. It's designed to fit European budget and regional commuter airline carry-on requirements, making it a great weekender bag or long vacation bag if you're a true minimalist packer.

When we first set our sights on putting this bag back into production at the end of 2021, we asked ourselves: "Can we make the Aeronaut better?" Through lots of trial and error, we found that the Aeronaut is a design that shouldn't be messed with too much, but if you're interested, here are the improvements that have been made:

You may be wondering...why there is still no separate laptop compartment and/or luggage handle pass-through? We experimented with iterations of this bag that had one or both features, and what we've found was: we kept on turning the Aeronaut into the Techonaut. We love the design of the Aeronaut; it's a tried-and-true classic, so ultimately we decided to keep the look mostly the same and distinct from the Techonaut.

Stay tuned for the Aeronaut 45, which we will also be restocking soon. The Aeronaut 45 will have the same improvements as the Aeronaut 30.

Can we expect the Aeronaut frame sheets to remain a current product? All mention of them has been removed from the optional accessories on both product pages.

So glad to see the Aeronaut 30/45 on their way back. Love the incremental improvements. I also love my Techonaut, but interestingly, I have found that when I use it, I generally don’t need the features that distinguish it from the Aeronaut. So………

Hi Greg! We’re super excited for the Aeronauts to be coming back too! We’ve had a lot of folks waiting on this one. :)

Already have two of them. And a 45. If you managed to make either of them even one ounce lighter, I’ll buy another. While I have no doubt you made it better….. It’s all about the weight. Brilliant bag. Mine have collectively traveled 2 million miles or so.

Hi Charles! Great to hear that your pack (herd? flock? gaggle?) of Aeronauts have been so well traveled! With the light weight 400D Halcyon sadly being able to be produced, we have been looking into other light weight fabrics—who knows what we might see in the future? :)

TOM BIHN replied:
*Whoops—missed an important word there! Just for clarification, the 400D Halcyon is not being produced anymore (hence ours, and many others sadness).

I was so happy to see you reintroducing the Aeronaut 30. This was one of my first TB bags, and I found it immediately functional and attractive. I’ve since added numerous TB and other brand bags to the fleet, including the Technonaut 30. I still find myself coming back to the Aeronaut at times for a classical, usable design.

Hi Sean! Perfect—glad to hear your Aeronaut has been a tried and true bag. :)

Thank you so much for recognizing the differences between the Techonaut and the Aeronaut and keeping this one around! I’ve been loving traveling with my Aeronaut 30 ever since I got it, far more than any other minimalist carryon bag I’ve ever had before.

Hi Cooner! We really hope folks can appreciate the differences between the Aeronaut and the Techonaut. :) The Aeronaut definitely has its own classic appeal!
