The Cache is a protective laptop or tablet sleeve that's available in many sizes. It's designed to protect your device against scrapes and scratches.

The Cache protects your laptop or tablet with little bulk added and is ideal for those who don't want their device case to make their loads heavier or to take up a lot of space. It cradles your device in .25" / 6 mm thick foam padding laminated with an exterior of heavy-duty polyester knit and an interior of brushed tricot.  Note: if you have a plastic protective case on your laptop, you'll need to order the next size up of Cache. The Cache features a #5 YKK coil zipper with two plastic sliders: important because the plastic won’t scratch your device. The zipper wraps around two of its four sides, allowing the Cache to work well in both portrait and landscape orientations. The zipper opens at the top (shortest side) for use in vertically-oriented bags like backpacks, but also zips open on its widest side when in use in horizontally-oriented bags like briefcases and messenger bags.

The Cache can be used in any bag; when you pair a Cache with one of our backpacks, travel bags or briefcases that has rail loops, the Cache becomes part of a clever checkpoint-friendly protective laptop solution. Here’s how it works:

On both sides of the Cache are two parallel "rails" of 1" wide, lightweight nylon webbing (exception: Size 08A iPad Mini is just too small to have rails) which extend from the top to the bottom. One side of the Cache has vertical rails while the other side of the Cache has horizontal rails; this, plus the clever zipper opening, allows you to conveniently use and secure the same Cache in our briefcases and backpacks.

Included with the Cache are two removable Gatekeeper Rail Clips. To attach the Cache to one of our larger bags with the compatible rail loops simply unclip the side of the Gatekeeper Rail Clip that isn't clipped to the Cache, slip it through the webbing rail loops in the larger bag's main compartment, and flip it shut. Slip the Cache inside the larger bag, and pull it back out: you'll see that the Gatekeeper Rail Clips ride the rails of the Cache, allowing you to remove your laptop from the larger bag entirely while it is still encased in the protective Cache. We think the rail system is a convenient and quick way to remove one's laptop from the bag.

Go to the page of the bag you’re wondering about — for example, the Synapse 25 — and look at the sizes of Cache offered in the drop-down menu under 'Add a Size of Cache'.  Only the sizes of Cache that fit the Synapse 25 will be listed.

Depending of course on the size of Cache, it will securely clip in the following bags:
Cadet, Daylight Briefcase, and Empire Builder briefcases
Synapse 19, Synapse 25, and Brain Bag backpacks
Tri-Star, Western Flyer, Stowaway and Pilot travel bags

The Cache fits (but doesn’t clip) in the following bags:
Maker’s Bag, Parental Unit, Medium Cafe Bag, and Small Cafe Bag messenger bags
Daylight Backpack, Guide's Pack and Hero's Journey backpacks
Pop Tote and Swift tote bags
Aeronaut 45, Aeronaut 30, and Co-Pilot travel bags
 

And, of course, as long as it’ll fit, you can use the Cache in a non-TOM BIHN bag.
